Glenn Beck's "Red Phone"

Glenn Beck unveiled a new gimmick on his TV show, today. He has installed a "Hotline" for the White House to call and refute anything he says that is not true, and in true dramatic fashion, the "Hotline" is- literally- a red phone, manned by a staffer throughout the show.

This is a blatant continuation of Beck's "prove me wrong" tactics- placing the burden of proof on the accused as he infers and announces connections between President Obama and everyone from ACORN and SEIU to Hugo Chavez and Chairman Mao. He constantly checks throughout the show whether or not the phone has rung, even going so far as to have the staffer manning the phone verify that it is working by checking for a dial tone and having someone call the "Hotline" to verify that it is in working order.

Strangely, despite the availability of a phone number for Beck to call to dispute the rumors that he allegedly raped and murdered a young girl in 1990, he has not called to dispute or deny the allegations. By Glenn Beck's own logic, we must then conclude that it is, in fact, true that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990.

Meanwhile, Beck has also so far declined to sign the proposed stipulation to apply the First Amendment in his dispute with Isaac Eiland-Hall over the domain GlennBeckRapedAndMurderedAYoungGirlIn1990.com. Again, by his silence, we must infer by Beck's own logic that his lack of response means that he does not support First Amendment protections for the speech of others, just for himself.

    There's a difference when Beck plays a video clip of Dunn quoting Mao and claiming he's "one of her two favorite political philosophers", then castigating her for revering the political writings of a murdering fiend -- then asking her to call in and correct him if he's made any misstatements of fact, and MAKING UP SOMETHING based on a comedy bit done by Gilbert Gottfried with full knowledge that it is 100% FALSE, presenting it as though it is true, then saying "unless you contact us and refute it, we will treat this as tacit proof of veracity".

    In the former, there is a demonstrable fact with an opportunity for rebuttal. In the latter, there is a KNOWN LIBEL with a demand that someone "prove a negative", a clear logical fallacy. The cases are not parallel.

    The "Beck raped etc." website makes a reputedly satirical claim that he committed a heinous act, then makes the demand that he "prove he didn't do this thing back in 1990", something no one could do.

    How about turnabout? The webmaster of the site is CLEARLY very eager to pin this on Beck. Could it be that HE actually raped and killed the girl he's blaming on Beck, and us using a famous person as a patsy? He hasn't proven to ME he didn't rape and kill the girl he says Beck raped and killed in 1990, so by his own logic, it MUST be true. (I'm kidding, by the way, that's satire. No one can get mad at me because I've said I'm joking.)

    Oh, and I'm sorely tempted to give your Beck phone line number to the Moonies, and tell them you want to seek enlightenment. (Still joking! Gotta love that satire!)

    @Demosthenes Locke
    I assume it is a minimum wage gig of yours to go and lie about anti-Beck statements.
    For the rest of the world-
    "Continuing Fox News' witch hunt against members of the Obama administration, both Glenn Beck and Special Report misleadingly cropped White House communications director Anita Dunn's remarks at a high school graduation ceremony to falsely claim that she was, in Beck's words, "proclaiming Mao [Zedong] as ... the man that she turns to most." In fact, Dunn actually said that Mao and Mother Theresa were
    "the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you're going to make choices"

    Beck cropped her words at an intentionally misleading point.

    This is another example of his ad hominem attacks which the 'rape murder' meme is presciently mocking.

    I used to watch Glenn Beck's show a lot. He really made so much sense and cut through all the junk that other so-called news shows dish out. Lately, however, I have read so much about how Glenn Beck raped and killed a girl in 1990 that I can not even stand to look at Glenn Beck on TV anymore. When so many people say that you raped and murdered a girl and you do not even bother to defend yourself, I think it is pretty obvious you are guilty. Nothing anyone says can change my mind on this either because at this point, with so many people saying this is true, it is not possible that Glenn Beck is innocent. Fox News should cancel this disgusting rapist's show.

    Wow....by that logic the writer is a rapist and murder too. Just stating that the two things happened at the same time in the same state is the lowest common denominator. I am sure where you live people have been hurt and by your logic you are just as guilty as Glenn. I do not blame Glenn for not responding to this kind of "have you stopped beating your wife yet" kind of accusation. Get a grip...watch or do not watch just don't play in the dirt with the other low lifes!

    The huge and glaring difference is that Glenn offers proof. Do you have any?
